Africa Centre
Dedicated to the geopolitical, economic, and developmental dynamics of the African continent, and its rapidly evolving relationship with India, the wider Global South, and the world.
Research Focus
The Africa Centre critically examines the continent's evolving security architecture, trade relations, and sustainable development trajectories. We work across five priority verticals.
South-South cooperation: bilateral and multilateral frameworks between African states and emerging powers, with a particular focus on the India–Africa relationship across health, education, digital infrastructure, and defence.
Resource diplomacy: the political economy of critical minerals, energy transitions, and the contested terrain of green industrial policy on the continent.
Digital inclusion: fintech, mobile money, and the African experience of leapfrogging legacy infrastructure, with implications for digital public goods globally.
Climate resilience: adaptation strategies for climate-vulnerable economies, climate finance, and the just transition for resource-dependent African states.
Continental integration: the African Continental Free Trade Area, regional security architectures, and the evolving role of the African Union in continental governance.
